This week is one of those weeks when I need some extra grace from myself. I woke up yesterday morning with a head cold that left me lightheaded and stuffy all day.
We have a puppy – I’m sure she’s come up a time or two here already. Her name is Britt and she is a rescue pup with a lot of energy. She requires two walks a day (which are getting longer and longer as she continues to build endurance) and a lot of fetch sessions in the house. She loves to be outside in the sun and unfortunately it has already been raining for days and we are expecting much, much more. Baby girl is stir crazy. Not only that but she is also going through a teenage phase where she likes to ignore us and do what she wants. Usually what she wants is to go upstairs where she likes to unroll toilet paper and chew on things. She’s learned to open almost all of the doors in our house, so there’s nowhere she can’t go when she sets her mind to it.
Here’s a cute picture of her when she was tiny and couldn’t reach the door handles:
Today, since I’m still sick (though actually feeling a lot better than I thought I would by now) I’m offering myself some extra grace through my “What’s Saving My Life” series. You can read about where this idea came from over here if you’re new to the idea.
Sweet Britt is what is saving my life this week because she sat on the couch with me ALL day yesterday while I watched a marathon of Parenthood and just vegged out. I could tell she was itching to run and play because whenever Nick would check in on us she immediately grabbed her ball and started jumping around. But when it was just us she stayed right by me, looking out the window, napping, and letting me rest. Even now while I lay here on the couch typing, she has settled back into her spot at the window.

A pup that is willing to play nurse even when she’d rather be playing fetch is saving my life right now…what’s saving yours?
I had a rare night alone last night without my fiance or my roommate, and my roommate’s dog was my devoted companion. She certainly saved my life yesterday. I hope you continue to feel better soon!
